How to find the perfect family car

Looking for a new car is never an easy job, looking for a new family car is even harder in my opinion. You have to take into consideration so many things, look at different models and what they have to offer and I didn’t even get to the financial part yet.

We never thought of changing our beloved car until this year, when space became an issue. Our baby grew and with two kids, the need for a bigger space got bigger and bigger, until we decided that it’s time to make a change.

We thought about it and we decided that a new car would be the best thing because with a new car you always know what to expect and since safety is our no1 priority, the choice was pretty simple. We checked out the latest car lease deals and found some pretty good offers, so in the end, it came down to the model that suited our needs the most.

Because buying a family car is not as easy as a walk in the park, I’ve put together a list of things that you have to consider before you start searching for cars. This list will make things a little easier, so enjoy it!

Safety

I think you’re with me on this one. Nothing is more important than you and your family’s safety, so before you decide to buy a car, check out its safety features. Do your research, read magazines, check out consumer reports, anything that you can find for the specific model that you have in mind. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Storage

I think all families can agree that storage is a big issue, especially when you have a larger family, so believe me when I say, you can never have too much storage space. Check to see if the car has enough space to place for all your luggage and if there is enough room for your outdoor gadgets, first aid kits, books, and cages in case you have pets.

Car size

In the beginning, I thought that the bigger the car, the better but not anymore. Our girls got bigger, so we don’t really need that much space anymore. Before we needed to have space in the car for a stroller, diaper bag, toy bags and don’t get me started on how much space I needed when we went on a holiday. That was then, but now, our family of four fits perfect in a decent size car, not too small but not too big either.

I think it’s about common sense here and knowing what suits your family best. Plan ahead, and think of possible changes that might happen along the way.

I recently read an article about what does your car say about your driving and I have to tell you that it was very interesting. I believe that it's not important what car you're driving as long as you're not a good driver but I do understand the statistics behind the article.

For example, most of the bad drivers drive a BMW and most of the time, the color is black. Why? Because they like to show off in my opinion. I'm talking here more about the young drivers that think they can rule the world just after they passed their driving test exam, but you get the point.

Anyway, the article is really interesting and I think you should definitely check it out.

Budget

Make sure to sit down with your spouse, and get a realistic assessment of your income, assets, and future prospects when you plan to buy a family car. Ask yourself if everyone can still live comfortably when you buy it. If not, then choose a more inexpensive vehicle or try first to sell your old car.

Pick a model that you both like. Remember you should enjoy spending a lot of time in your car. What’s the point of driving it if you and your family don’t like to use it? You should be happy with it, and the way to do that is to make sure that it satisfies everyone’s needs and preferences most of the time. That way, you get to share a lot of experiences and create memories along the way.
