Great tips to have a wonderful winter

winter fun

I don't know about you, but for me, this year has been like a roller coaster ride, a scary one I might add and I can't believe it's almost over. Where did the time go? Winter is just around the corner and once the cold season has settled in, most of our weekends are spent on the couch in front of the TV, especially when the cold weather is being unfavorable for venturing outdoors.

What inspired me to write this article was a recent debate made by Regatta that totally caught my attention. They decided to survey 800 people from all over the UK to find out how many different ways there were to say “it’s cold" because let's be honest, the weather is one of the most discussed subjects. This survey also showed people’s preferred Winter activities, ways of keeping snug and their favorite hot drinks at this time of year.

Pretty fascinating right? But if the weather is cold, it doesn’t mean that you have to hibernate until spring, so here are a few tips to keep yourself busy this winter.

winter time

Take long walks in nature

If it's one thing that I learned to appreciate more this year, it's nature. Time spent in nature is never wasted, especially if you enjoy the lovely winter scenery, so try to take long walks and enjoy all the beautiful things that this magical season has to offer.

Try winter sports

Skiing, snowboarding, skating, you name it. Give one of them, or maybe all, a try. You never know which one you might end up loving, plus it will get your body out of the hibernation state.

Sledding

No, we’re not kids anymore but this is a great activity for a bunch of reasons. First of all, it’s great exercise, so you can skip going to the gym. Running up on those hills in the snow can be quite challenging, so you’re getting a complete workout and having a lot of fun! Second of all, even if we’re grown-ups now, sledding will always bring back old memories and the same joy that we felt when we were kids.

Have fun in the snow

This brings back some good old memories. I remember what a joy we had every time it snowed. We could go outside and build snowmen, make snow angels, play with snowballs, it felt like the whole was ours. Even now, I love playing in the snow with my children. I love to see their happy faces, plus it’s a great way to spend family time in nature.

warm in winter

Now, no matter how magical and beautiful this season is, you must take very good care of your health and stay warm. If it's quite easy to stay warm in the comfort of your own home, it's not so easy if you're deciding to go out, so here are a few tips for that.
  • Invest in good thermal clothes - I used to hate these when I was a teenager. I thought that I was tough enough and I didn't need extra help to fight the cold, boy I love them now. A thermal set should be considered a wardrobe essential in winter and if you don't own one, you should definitely consider trying it.
  • Hand warmers - they might be a bit old school, but they're surprisingly good at giving you an added bit of comfort and warmth on those wintery nights and days out.
  • A steaming cuppa - when it's cold outside there's nothing better to warm those cold hands and body than a steaming cup of coffee/tea/chocolate.
I really hope you can find these tips useful and that you will have a December to remember! Take care and stay safe!
